3 WAYS TO FIND A MENTOR

So you finally decided that you want to have a mentor to help you take your career to the next level. You know what you want to get out from it and you’re ready to start this collaboration. But then the question is, where do you find a mentor? In this blog post, I will explain 3 ways how you can find a mentor. Let’s go!

At your workplace

Yup, this is the perfect place to find yourself a mentor. If you work at a place where they invest in quarterly or yearly mentorship programs, do enroll yourself. This is the easiest way to be connected to someone who you can learn from. Also, it doesn’t always have to be through some sort of a mentorship program. If you meet someone at your workplace that you know you can learn so much from, keep connecting with the person. Ask the person for (virtual) coffee moments to catch up. This is also another informal way how you can find a mentor.

At summits, conferences and (career) events

Another perfect place to start networking and connect with a potential mentor is during summits, conferences and career events. I remember going to a Women in Tech event two years ago where I followed a workshop during that event. While I was in that class, I started having a chat with the lady next to me. She gave me her card and apparently she was a career coach/mentor. We’ve had several calls since then and connected on LinkedIn. It can be as simple as that! So aside from learning a lot from people during conferences and event, it could also be your perfect opportunity to link up with someone who potentially could be your mentor.

Someone within your circle (friends or family)

Do you have that friend that has many experience in public speaking? Do you have that auntie that is running a successful business? Do you have that sister who is fantastic is negotiating? Do you have that brother that has gotten promoted several times within the same company he works for? Do you know someone who is just very good in whatever it is you want to learn and excel at? Look around you. You might be surprised that you have one or two people in your circle that are willing to mentor you in the field you need help with. Let me know once you’ve linked up with the right mentor!
